How to Increase the Immunity of Your Child?

The kids come to this world with a new immune system and slowly build their immunity. The immune system in kids has been designed to do a beautiful job of guarding them against many bacteria and viruses. It defends your kids against infections, but sometimes it fails to fight against the infection, making your child fall sick.

As parents, we get so worried about our child getting sick often that we are forced to wonder if we can do something to boost the immune system of kids. With this Corona Virus outbreak, parents are even more worried about their kids’ safety.

Can the immune system be really boosted?

Past researches done at Harvard Business School proves that the immune system can be definitely be boosted by maintaining a healthy lifestyle and a balanced mind.

Ways to Boost Your Child’s Immunity

Here, are a few proven ways to boost the immunity of your child:

1. Start your kids day with a glass of warm water

Water comprises approximately 70% of body composition in humans. It is present in abundance in all our tissues and organs. Water is necessary to remove toxins from our body, and ample water is needed to support the functioning of vital organs in the body.

This holds true for young kids too. Water helps to kick out toxins from the body, which boosts up the immune system immensely. Get your kids into the habit of starting their day with a glass of warm water.

Also, make sure your kids stay hydrated through the day, it will help them build a strong immunity in the long run.

2. Tulsi and Turmeric

Tulsi plant is known for its exceptional medicinal and healing properties. Having a tulsi plant in the home has been considered auspicious since ancient times. Tulsi is known to contain numerous healing properties like:

  • It is rich in anti-oxidants.
  • It is anti-inflammatory.
  • It fights fever, cough, and flu.
  • It helps in boosting immunity regularly.
  • It removes impurities from the body.
  • It prevents premature ageing.

Tulsi must not be fed directly to kids. You can put two to three tulsi leaves in a glass of water and set it aside for a few hours. Make your child sip this water three to four times a day. It will cure cough, fever, or cold faster and will also boost your child’s immunity.

Turmeric – Turmeric contains Curcumin, which has scientifically proven health benefits. Curcumin has anti-inflammatory properties and is rich in anti-oxidants. It is an excellent immune booster for kids as well as adults.

‘Haldi Milk’ is a popular preparation which is given at the time of fever, cough, and cold. It is a popular grandma’s recipe and is still followed widely.

In such turbulent times, when coronavirus infection has outspread, it is advisable to give your child a glass of Haldi milk every night before sleeping to help him/her boost up the immune system.

3. Soaked Almonds

Soaked almonds contain high-quality protein nutrition along with Omega 3 fatty acids. It is rich in dietary fibers, contains some rare amino-acids, and vitamin E. Soaked almonds are a superfood for kids.

Soaked almonds should be given as the first thing in the morning to kids after giving them a glass of warm water. Soaked almonds are better than raw almonds as the brown peel of almonds contains tannin, which inhibits nutrient absorption. So, it is always better to give peeled almonds to kids.

4. Fruits and Vegetables

Fruits hold the highest position in the food pyramid as they are believed to be extremely nutritious. A fruit needs the least time to get digested and assimilated in the body.

Fruits contain essential micro and macronutrients, vitamins, minerals, and fibers that are much needed by the body. Feeding your child raw fruits is highly recommended for building their immunity.

Raw vegetables are also highly nutritious. A green salad containing cucumber, tomatoes, beetroots, and onions should be fed to kids as a regular pre-lunch or pre-dinner snack.

5. Active lifestyle

Young kids need to be physically active and engage themselves regularly in outdoor games. Make sure that your child gets to play enough each day, which will strengthen their brain muscles and boost overall immunity. Regular physical exercise in any form has shown to increase neurogenesis, as is suggested by recent medical researches.

Neurogenesis refers to new brain cell formation, which is believed to stop completely in kids as they grow up. So, regular exercise in any form promotes neurogenesis in kids as well as adults.
