Road safety is a must for every family, and the need becomes greater when you are to travel with an infant. There are many challenges when you decide to take your infant on a road trip. You need to prepare well in advance for the drive. First, understand that a small car is perhaps not ideal to fit in the baby’s car seat and all the paraphernalia that comes with travelling with a child.

How to take care on a road trip with Infants?

There are some road safety tips for family that you might need to keep in mind before you plan a trip.

  • Car seats are the most important. Invest in a good quality car seat. Get it installed by a technician or from your garage to be safe.
  • Pack sensibly. If you are to be on the road for a couple of days, do ensure that you have packed a small bag with extra clothes, wipes, and diapers along with the many knick-knacks you may require. This bag should be kept handy in the front of the car for easy access.
  • Pack enough baby food, formula and bottles, spoons and such. Remember that you will have no place to sterilize bottles, so carry a fair number to last you the trip.
  • Prepare a small kit with medications that your child needs on a regular basis. carry some basic medicines like paracetamol, anti-diarrheal medication, and medication for car sickness and nausea.
  • You might also consider keeping a couple of changes for yourself handy. Small infants can be susceptible to nausea while riding long distances in the car.
  • You need to carry pee pads to put on the car seat, as the movement may cause your baby’s diaper to shift and cause accidents.
  • You may find a microwavable sterilizing or sanitizing bag. This may help in getting you sterilized bottles if you find a motel with a microwave they let you access.
  • Fit your cat with car seats that have pockets on the back. That might come to be useful if you need to keep tissues, water, wipes, and diapers.

Road safety tips for parents with infants

Once your car is ready and you have packed with care, you should be ready to leave. But, a word of caution. Many children may fall prey to nausea and stomach issues when on the rod. It might be a good idea to take the baby out for short intervals of time. The infant gets a feel of what the journey would be like. It can also make her acclimatized to spending time in a carrier in the car.

If you are still breastfeeding, it might be a good idea to form a plan on how you can do it on the road. Remember that you need to eat and drink plenty of water. It might be smart to plan for longer and more frequent stops. This will help you stretch your legs and the baby a chance to leave the stuffy car.

Follow traffic rules and the above tips to enjoy your road trip with your baby thoroughly!
